Rattles Recalled by Rhino Toys Due to Choking Hazard

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and Health Canada, in cooperation with the firm named below, announced a voluntary recall of the following consumer product. Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed. It is illegal to resell or attempt to resell a recalled consumer product.

Name of Product: OBall Links & Mini Rattles(tm)

Units: About 14,000 in the United States and 14,000 in Canada

Importer: Rhino Toys Inc., of Santa Cruz, Calif.

Hazard: The hard plastic C-links on both ends of the rattles’ soft plastic chain can break, posing a choking hazard to young children.

Incidents/Injuries: Rhino Toys has received one report of a broken C-link. No injuries have been reported.

Description: This recall involves infant rattles called OBall Links & Mini Rattles(tm). The soft plastic OBall is 2 1/2 inches in diameter and has beads inside a small plastic bubble that make the rattle sound. The OBall is attached to a 7 1/2 inch soft plastic chain by C-shaped plastic links on both ends. “OBall” is stamped into the top of the plastic chain.

Sold at: Toys R Us and other specialty toy stores nationwide from April 2010 through December 2010 for about $8.

Manufactured in: China

Remedy: Consumers should immediately take the recalled rattle away from children and contact Rhino Toys to receive a full refund.

Sunjoy Industries Recalls Outdoor Wood Burning Fireplaces Sold Exclusively at Lowe’s Stores Due to Fire Hazard

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and Health Canada, in cooperation with the firm named below, today announced a voluntary recall of the following consumer product. Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed. It is illegal to resell or attempt to resell a recalled consumer product .

Name of Product: Freestanding Steel Outdoor Fireplaces

Units: About 20,000 in the United States and 400 in Canada

Manufacturer: Sunjoy Industries Group Limited, of Steubenville, Ohio

Hazard: The decorative bronze powder coat finish on the fireplace chimney can ignite during use, posing a fire hazard to consumers.

Incidents/Injuries: Sunjoy has received 14 reports of the chimney’s decorative powder coat finish catching fire, resulting in one report of melted siding. No injuries have been reported.

Description: This recall involves “Garden Treasures Living” steel outdoor fireplaces with a bronze finish chimney and slate colored accents. The wood burning fireplace is approximately 24 inches deep by 35 inches wide and 57 inches tall, has two glass doors and a tile back inside. Item number 0027705 and model number L-OF082PST-3 are printed on the front page of the product’s instruction manual. No other “Garden Treasures Living” brand outdoor fireplaces are included in this recall.

Sold at: Lowe’s retail stores nationwide from March 2010 through November 2010 for about $300.

Remedy: Consumers should immediately stop using the fireplace and contact Sunjoy to obtain a free replacement chimney and chimney cap.

Guardian Full-Face Diving Masks Due to Drowning Hazard

Name of Product: Guardian full-face diving masks

Units: About 1,700 in the U.S. and 80 in Canada

Manufacturer: Undersea Systems International Inc. dba Ocean Technology Systems, of Santa Ana, Calif.

Hazard: The purge assembly on the diving mask can disengage from the regulator, resulting in loss of air to the diver. This poses a drowning hazard to the consumer.

Incidents/Injuries: The firm has received one report of a disengaged assembly. No injuries have been reported.

Description:

Sold by: Diving equipment retailers and direct sales nationwide from September 2010 through November 2010 for about $800.

Manufactured in: Taiwan

Remedy: Consumers should immediately stop using the diving masks and contact Ocean Technology Systems for instructions on conducting a test of the regulator and returning the masks for a free repair.

Name of Product: Little Pet Vet costumes and Dr. Littles costumes

Units: About 1,800

Importer: Fun World, Inc. a Division of Easter Unlimited, Inc. of Carle Place, N.Y.

Hazard: The costumes are sold with a toy stethoscope accessory. The plastic ear pieces at the end of the stethoscope can be pulled off, posing a choking hazard to young children.

Incidents/Injuries: None Reported

Description: This recall is limited to the stethoscope accessory from Fun World’s toddler-sized Pet Vet and Dr. Littles costumes. The costumes include a white lab coat, a cap, scrub pants, a scrub shirt and a stethoscope. The cap and scrubs are pink, turquoise or blue. A tracking label bearing the code 10060GFI01 and a production date of either Jan-Mar 2010 or Apr-Jun 2010 is sewn into the neck of the scrub shirt or the lab coat.

Sold at: Novelty stores, costume and party supply stores nationwide from August 2010 through October 2010 for about $15.

Remedy: Consumers should immediately take the stethoscope away from children and contact Fun World for instructions on returning the stethoscope for a full refund.

Baja Motorsports Recalls Dirt Bikes Sold Exclusively at Pep Boys Due to Fire and Burn Hazards

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with the firm named below, announced a voluntary recall of the following consumer product. Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed. It is illegal to resell or attempt to resell a recalled consumer product.

Name of Product: Dirt Bikes

Units: About 4,300

Importer: Baja Inc., d/b/a Baja Motorsports, of Anderson, S.C.

Hazard: Fuel can leak from the fuel tank, posing a fire and burn hazard to consumers.

Incidents/Injuries: The firm has received six reports of fires from fuel leakage including one report of minor burns to a consumer’s legs.

Description: This recall involves all model DR50 and DR70 Baja dirt bikes with VIN numbers beginning with “L98.” The model number and VIN are located on the product data plate, which is located on the side of the “goose neck” (where the handle bars meet the body of the bike).

Sold at: Pep Boys stores nationwide from December 2010 through January 2011 for between $550 and $650.

Remedy: Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled dirt bikes and contact Baja Motorsports to schedule a free repair.

Atico International USA Recalls Holiday Rattle Baby Slippers Due to Choking Hazard; Sold Exclusively at Walgreens

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with the firm named below, today announced a voluntary recall of the following consumer product. Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed. It is illegal to resell or attempt to resell a recalled consumer product.

Name of Product: Holiday rattle baby slippers

Units: About 57,000

Importer: Atico International USA Inc., of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.

Distributor/Retailer: Walgreen Co., of Deerfield, Ill.

Hazard: The internal stuffing and rattle inside the slippers decorative figures can be pulled out, posing a choking hazard to young children.

Incidents/Injuries: Atico received one report of a 7-month old baby that was found beginning to turn blue with the slippers’ stuffing in its’ mouth. The baby’s father removed the stuffing. Two additional reports of babies wearing the slippers who pulled on the rattle/stuffing and the stuffing came out were also reported. No injuries reported.

Description: The recalled slippers are decorated with stuffed fabric figures including snowmen, Santa, reindeer, and penguins, and have decorative rattles inside the slippers that sound like bells when shaken. Item number 999526 is printed on the back of the cardboard header card packaging. “Find Your Joy” is printed on the front of the slippers packaging.

Sold exclusively at: Walgreen stores nationwide from October 2010 through January 2011 for about $5.

Manufactured in: China

Remedy: Consumers should immediately stop using the slippers and return them to any Walgreen location for a full refund.

Hazard: The front fork steering tube can break, posing a fall injury hazard.

Incidents/Injuries: The firm has received four reports of injuries, including three reports of cuts and scrapes and one report of a broken wrist.

Description: The recalled bicycles have Rocky Mountain Bicycle printed on the frame. Only bicycles with certain serial numbers, located on the bottom side of the bicycle, are included in this recall. The recall includes the following bicycles:

Hazard: The knobs attached to the puzzle fruits can come loose, posing a choking hazard to young children.

Incidents/Injuries: None reported.

Description: This recall involves wooden puzzles that consist of a board and four pieces representing an orange, a plum, a pear and an apple. Each piece of fruit has a wooden knob. The puzzle board measures 12 x 4.5 x ½ inches. “Grouping Objects – Fruit” and style number10307 can be found on the packaging.

Sold at: Specialty children’s stores nationwide from November 2010 through February 2011 for about $12.

Wall Mount Fireplaces Recalled by Southern Enterprises Due to Fire and Fall Hazards; Sold Exclusively by Home Shopping Network

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with the firm named below,  announced a voluntary recall of the following consumer product. Name of Product: Colin Cowie Gel-Fuel Wood Fireplaces

Units: About 6,000

Importer: Southern Enterprises Inc. (SEI), of Coppell, Texas

Hazard: Heat from the operating unit causes the plastic mounting screws to deform causing the unit to fall from the wall, posing a fall and fire hazard.

Incidents/Injuries: SEI has received reports of 21 incidents of the product detaching from wall and falling, heat damage, and/or fire. Two reports of personal injuries, including a knee injury and broken toes.

Description: This recall involves Colin Cowie dual-positioning, wood wall-mount, gel-fuel fireplace with item No. 955-074. The wooden wall mount fireplace has an espresso-colored finish with copper, silver or antique gold finished metal trim. It may be hung in a horizontal or vertical position. This recall involves units manufactured in July 2010. Lot number SEI/07/001 can be found on a label on the rear of the unit in the upper right hand corner when horizontal.

Sold at: Home Shopping Network between October and November 2010 for about $250.

Remedy: Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled product and call SEI for a corrective retro fit kit that will be sent free of charge.

Pogo Sticks Recalled by Bravo Sports Due to Risk of Serious Injury

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with the firm named below,  announced a voluntary recall of the following consumer product. Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed. It is illegal to resell or attempt to resell a recalled consumer product.

Name of Product: Pogo Sticks

Units: About 169,000

Distributor: Bravo Sports, of Santa Fe Springs, Calif.

Hazard: The bottom of the pogo stick’s frame tube can break or come apart and a pin holding the spring in place can break, posing laceration and fall hazards to consumers.

Incidents/Injuries: Bravo has received 123 reports of incidents involving the pogo sticks, including nine reports of injuries. Injuries include one report of a child who chipped a tooth and required stitches for a facial laceration, another child who chipped a tooth and one child who fell after the pogo stick broke and knocked out a tooth.

Description: This recall involves the Rocket Stick Pogo, Pop Stick Pogo, Monster Stick Pogo and Twin Stick Pogo. They were sold in red, green and blue colors. Rocket, Pop, Monster or Twin are printed on the stem and on the foot pedals. Only pogo sticks with manufacturing date codes between 04/01/2010 – 046HE and 10/31/2010 – 046HE are included in the recall. The manufacturing date code is located on a white label underneath the foot pedal or on the stem of the pogo near the foot pedals.


Sold at: Mass merchandisers nationwide and online by Web retailers from May 2010 through March 2011 for between $25 and $40.

Remedy: Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled pogo sticks and contact Bravo to receive a full refund.
